African film stars including Ghana’s Jackie Appiah, Kenya’s Kenneth Ambani, Burkina Faso’s Charles Koutou, and Nigeria’s Chinedu Ikedieze will lead a galaxy of African film stars and creatives to the 20th edition of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), scheduled to be held in Lagos, Nigeria on Saturday, November 2, 2024.
This was recently confirmed by Raymond Anyiam-Osigwe, the Chief Executive Officer of AMAA, and communicated by the Chief Operating Officer, Tony Anih, after a recent meeting of the board of the Africa Film Academy, owners of AMAA.
With the nominations out, the competition is fierce in the run for the coveted titles of Best Actor and Best Actress, with accomplished stars such as Chidi Mokeme in ‘Out of Breath;’ Zolixa Xaluva in ‘The Queenstown Kings;’ Femi Jacobs in ‘Anjola La Femme,’ and Bucci Franklin in ‘The weekend;’ Duncan Murunyu Mungai in ‘Boda Love’ and Nenesenor Abloso in ‘Letters to Goddo’ battling to outwit one another. The male category further showcases continental talents showcasing their grit and readiness to take on the world.
In the female category, the competition is just as fierce featuring the remarkable performances of Oyin Oladejo in ‘Orah;’ Uzoamaka Aniunoh in ‘The Weekend;’ Laura Pepple in ‘This is Lagos’ and Efe Irele in ‘A Smile, A Wink and A Tear;’ competing against Girley Jazama in ‘Under The Hanging Tree’ and Jackie Appiah in ‘Red Carpet.’
According to Anyiam-Osigwe, the outcome of the board meeting revealed that over 60 African film stars will attend the event as well as a long list of activities lined up for the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the continental awards ceremony.
Billed to be hosted in conjunction with the Lagos State Government in Nigeria at the distinguished Balmoral Convention Centre, Ikeja, GRA, Lagos, other African film stars and practitioners, who have confirmed attendance include Lydia Forson, Micheal Majid, Osita Iheme, Adjetey Anna, Morris Sam, and Zuby Micheals amongst several others.
Anyiam-Osigwe also revealed the lineup of activities for the 2024 edition of the film and movie awards ceremony saying the 2024 AMAA is significant.
The official activities scheduled for the 20th edition will begin with the launch of the AMAA coffee book on Friday, October 25 at the Marriott Hotel in Ikeja, GRA, Lagos, this will be followed by a two-day AMAA Africa Fashion Show and Trade Exhibition between October 31, 2024 and November 1, 2024 at the Amore Gardens, Lekki, Phase I, Lagos.
The AMAA Africa Night of Legends will be held on Friday, November 1, 2024, at the Amore Gardens, Lekki Phase I, Lagos, after which the gala night cum awards ceremony will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at the exquisite Balmoral Convention Centre.
