Agradaa Sentenced to 15 Years, Urges Followers to Pray

Moments after being sentenced to 15 years in prison with hard labour, controversial evangelist and former fetish priestess Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Agradaa, offered a cryptic message to her followers as she was led out of the Accra Circuit Court: “Mpaebo no a,” a Twi phrase meaning “only prayers” or “let it be prayers.”

The statement came in response to a journalist who asked if she had any words for her church members before beginning her sentence on July 3, 2025. Calm but guarded, Agradaa gave no further comment, leaving observers to interpret her remark as either a final spiritual plea or a quiet signal of resignation.

Agradaa was convicted by the Accra Circuit Court for charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretenses after luring church members into a money-doubling scam disguised as a spiritual all-night service at her Weija church. The court, presided over by Her Honor Evelyn Asamoah, ordered a pregnancy test before sentencing, which returned negative, allowing proceedings to continue. In her judgment, the judge noted that Agradaa had “executed the offences skillfully” and “showed no signs of remorse.”

The court also cited a 2022 televised broadcast in which Agradaa claimed to possess spiritual powers capable of doubling money, prompting many viewers to send her funds expecting returns that never materialized.

Agradaa’s transformation from a well-known fetish priestess to a self-styled Christian evangelist has long been a subject of public debate in Ghana.
