The African Union Commission has voiced alarm over the deteriorating security and humanitarian situation in Mali, urging swift and coordinated international intervention to address the escalating crisis.
In a statement issued on Sunday, November 9, 2025, the Commission expressed “deep concern over the worsening security situation in Mali, where terrorist groups have imposed a fuel blockade, disrupted essential supplies, and severely worsened humanitarian conditions for civilians.”
The Commission also “strongly” condemned “the deliberate killing of innocent civilians, which has caused deep suffering and heightened instability across affected communities.”
Further denouncing acts of violence, the African Union Commission also condemned “the recent abductions, including the kidnapping of three Egyptian nationals, and calls for their immediate and unconditional release. Kidnapping and attacks on non-combatants are unacceptable violations of human rights and international law.”
Calling for a united front against extremist threats, the Commission urged a coordinated international response to counter terrorism and violent extremism in the Sahel, calling for enhanced cooperation, intelligence sharing, and sustained support to countries facing these threats.
Reaffirming its commitment to the region, the statement concluded that the Commission reaffirms its solidarity with the Government and people of Mali and with the families of the victims, and remains committed to promoting peace, security, and development across the Sahel region.
