Renowned Nigerian actress and filmmaker Adunni Ade has issued a firm warning to several media outlets over the circulation of a false interview attributed to her. Through a statement released by her management company, Guguru Media, the actress categorically denied ever granting the interview in question and demanded an immediate retraction of the defamatory report.
The statement referenced both the Cyber Crimes Act and the Criminal Code Act, emphasizing that the dissemination of false and misleading information constitutes a criminal offense under Nigerian law.
“To Whom It May Concern, I hereby request the immediate cessation of the dissemination of false and unverified information pertaining to my character and reputation,” the statement read. “Such actions constitute a criminal offense under the applicable legislation, specifically the Criminal Code and the Cyber Crimes Act.”
Adunni Ade, through her management, issued a 24-hour ultimatum to all parties involved in the publication of the false report. The ultimatum calls for the immediate removal of the content, a public retraction, and an unreserved apology.
The statement further cited Section 24 of the Cyber Crimes Act, which penalizes the deliberate distribution of false content intended to cause harm, and Section 375 of the Criminal Code Act, which addresses the publication of defamatory statements.
“It is crucial to understand that exploiting my name and brand for social media notoriety has persisted for far too long, and I am determined to take this matter seriously moving forward,” Adunni Ade stated.
She warned that failure to comply with the demands would result in legal action, as she intends to pursue every available remedy to defend her reputation and brand integrity.
“This publication is totally false. I did not grant this interview. Please take this notice as a final warning to avoid being implicated in any further unethical dissemination that could have legal consequences,” she concluded.
The actress’s decisive response underscores a broader concern in the entertainment industry about misinformation, the misuse of public figures’ identities, and the urgent need for responsible journalism.
