The Accra High Court has stopped Kofi Owusu, the family head (Abusuapanyin) of late iconic Ghanaian musician, Daddy Lumba, from organizing the burial of the singer.

On Friday, December 12, 2025, the Court granted an injunction filed by the maternal family of Daddy Lumba, restraining Mr. Owusu (the first respondent), from organizing his funeral.

Also, the Accra High Court stopped Transitions Funeral Home from releasing Daddy Lumba’s body until the substantive case is settled.

According to the Court in its ruling, affidavits before it suggested that the immediate family of Daddy Lumba had been sidelined in funeral arrangements.

It says the affidavits stressed the need to consider the merits of the case.

The Court acknowledged that delaying the burial could lead to increased costs but emphasised that due process and proper family involvement must be respected.

The Court affirmed that the family head has the authority to lead funeral preparations, but held that such authority must be exercised in consultation with the immediate family.

As a such, the Court ordered Kofi Owusu to convene a stakeholder meeting within three weeks to agree on a new burial date.

Daddy Lumba died at the age of 60 on July 26, 2025. Since his passing, there has been a dispute between his maternal relatives and the family head over who should lead the funeral and how funds should be managed.

The Court has since directed that all funds raised for the funeral should be separated from accounts belonging to the Daddy Lumba Memorial Foundation.
