AS Monaco head coach, Adi Hutter believes Nigeria’s George Ilenikhena will get better as the attacker eyes another playing opportunity tonight in the UEFA Champions League against Bologna in Italy.
Ilenikhena has played 10 games in the French Ligue One with one assist but bagged the match winner for Monaco in their shock 2-1 win over Barcelona.
Hutter said the 18-year- old would continue to be given opportunities to prove himself as he continues to integrate himself into the French League despite the club’s recent poor form in the local league.
“We made this decision to play with two up front in order to have more attacking players in the opponent’s box,” Hutter told journalists in the wake of their surprise 1-0 home loss to Angers last weekend.
“Unfortunately, what we did was too easy, slow and it lacked rhythm. We also wanted to bring confidence to George so he could score, but it didn’t work.
“We then made the decision to take him off for Eliesse, and put Taki’ in support of Breel as a second striker.”
Monaco are fourth in the UEFA Champions League group with seven points from three games having beaten Barcelona (2-1) and Crvena Zvezda (5-1) with a 2-2 draw against Dinamo Zagreb.
They travel to Bologna with a game tonight with Ilenikhena among the traveling party.
