At least 700 people are now feared dead after deadly floods hit the Nigerian town of Mokwa.
The floods on Thursday, according to Nigerian officials, has left 200 people officially dead.
Officials say another 500 people are still missing in the town which is located in the central Niger State.
But a local official, Musa Kimboku, has told journalists that rescue efforts have been stopped because authorities no longer believe anyone could still be found alive.
Thursday’s floods are believed to be the worst in the area in the last 60 years.
The floods swept through the Mokwa districts of Tiffin Maza and Anguwan Hausawa after torrential rains.
Residents have been counting their losses.
On Sunday, Nigeria’s National Emergency Agency said it had began the process of providing relief packages to people affected.
According to the Agency, roads and bridges in the town were affected by the flood.
The Nigerian Red Cross released a statement on Friday, confirming that the floods had caused “significant loss of life and widespread distress.”
