Eight prisoners already serving life sentences have received additional jail terms after staging a prolonged and violent disturbance inside HMP Whitemoor, a high-security prison in Cambridgeshire.
The incident unfolded in October 2022, when the group refused to return to their cells after lunch and effectively took control of a prison wing for nearly 10 hours.
Slippery Floors and Barricades
According to court proceedings at Cambridge Crown Court, the inmates used everyday items to obstruct prison officers. Oil, shower gel, and shampoo were poured along the landing corridor floor, creating a dangerously slippery surface that prevented staff from advancing safely.
Furniture was overturned and stacked to block stairways, while the prisoners fashioned makeshift protective gear, including improvised helmets, to shield themselves from Pava spray and other crowd-control measures. Broken table legs and kettles were reportedly used as weapons during the standoff.

As tensions escalated, authorities deployed a specialist national response unit trained to handle serious prison disturbances. By around 10 p.m., officers regained control of the wing and restrained the inmates after they barricaded themselves inside a cell for a final stand.
Additional Sentences Imposed
On February 20, the final member of the group was sentenced, bringing the legal proceedings to a close. The additional prison terms, which will run consecutively to their existing life sentences, are as follows:
• Rick-Champion Champion Musaba, 30 — four years for prison mutiny
• Nicholas Bridge, 26 — three years and six months
• Irwin Constable, 25 — three years and six months
• Korie Hassan, 33 — three years and four months after admitting violent disorder
• Dior Diego Jackson, 27 — one year and nine months
• Bradley Blundell, 26 — 18 months
• Troy Muschett-Thomas, 25 — 18 months
• Jahliel Rose, 29 — one year and four months
Security Concerns Highlighted
The disturbance raised renewed concerns about safety and control within high-security prisons, particularly facilities housing offenders convicted of the most serious crimes. Officials have maintained that swift coordination and specialist intervention prevented further escalation or serious injuries.
All eight men will now serve their additional sentences on top of their existing life terms.
