The Niger State Police Command has re-arrested one of the inmates who escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Suleja, along with members of an armed robbery syndicate operating in the area.
The prison had suffered a wall collapse on April 23, 2024, after a heavy downpour, which led to the escape of 118 inmates.

According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, in a statement issued on Thursday, October 23, 2025, the suspect, identified as Jemilu Ibrahim, was apprehended during a routine patrol by operatives of the “B” Division in Suleja on October 15, 2025.
“Earlier on October 15, 2025, at about 8:30 p.m., a police surveillance team attached to ‘B’ Division, Suleja, while on patrol along the Suleja–Madalla road, intercepted one Jemilu Ibrahim of Timber-shed area, Kwata Madalla, in possession of illicit substances and suspected stolen items such as ATM cards and mobile phones,” the statement read.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had previously been convicted for armed robbery and was among the inmates who escaped during the 2024 jailbreak. He has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for onward return to the Correctional Centre.
Similarly, on October 19, 2025, at about 1:00 a.m., police officers on patrol rescued and arrested Lukman Umar, 23, of APC Quarters 1, Suleja, who was about to be lynched by a mob after attempting to flee a food stall without payment near Kantoma Bridge.
During interrogation, Umar confessed to being part of a robbery gang involved in stealing vehicles, motorcycles, and phones in the area. He also named his accomplices as Saifullahi Ibrahim (34) of APC Quarters, Lawali, Garba, and Ayuba.
Further investigation led to the arrest of Saifullahi Ibrahim at his residence in Dakwa, where officers recovered three locally made revolver guns and two knives. Both suspects admitted to posing as vigilante members to conceal their criminal activities.
SP Abiodun added that investigations are ongoing to track down other members of the syndicate, after which all suspects will be charged to court.
