Some four persons were allegedly shot dead on Sunday, October 26, 2025, during opposition protests in Cameroon as tension mounts ahead of the official declaration of the country’s October 12, 2025 presidential election results.
The killings allegedly took place in Cameroon’s commercial capital Douala, the campaign of presidential candidate Issa Tchiroma, said.
Tchiroma, a former government official, is seeking to oust President Paul Biya
He has called for the protests to demand that the results of an October 12 vote be respected.
The official results are expected to be declared on Monday, October 27, 2025.
Arrests of opposition leaders
As Africa Publicity earlier reported, at least two opposition leaders in Cameroon have allegedly been arrested by armed security forces.
The Union for Change political platform announced the arrests of its leaders in a statement on Friday, October 24, 2025, amid rising post-election tensions in the country.
The two opposition leaders, Anicet Ekane and Djeukam Tchameni, had both endorsed main opposition leader, Issa Tchiroma Bakary. Tchiroma claims to have won the October 12 presidential election but incumbent President Paul Biya’s party has described his declaration as unconstitutional.
According to Union for Change, the two leaders were both arrested at home by armed security forces.
Kidnapping of opposition membersÂ
Meanwhile, opposition party, the African Movement for New Independence and Democracy (MANIDEM) alleged that several of its members have been kidnapped by local security forces.
MANIDEM accused the government of trying to intimidate Cameroonians.
On Monday, October 27, 2025, Cameroon’s electoral commission is expected to announce the final results of the election.
As the country waits for official declaration, opposition supporters have been staging protests, cautioning against any attempt to rig the election.
Tchiroma says he won the election bases on results he claimed were collated by his party but President Biya’s party accused him of trying to disrupt the election.
