Interpol has listed Ken Ofori-Atta, a former Finance Minister of Ghana who is under investigation for his alleged involvement in several high-profile corruption cases, as “wanted” on its official website.
The charged leveled against Mr. Ofori-Atta on Interpol’s website is “using public office for profit.”
Mr. Ofori-Atta was listed on the Interpol red notice on June 5, 2025, after the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) of Ghana re-declared him as wanted following his failure to appear before the OSP for questioning on June 2.
As earlier reported, Ghana’s Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, at a press conference on June 2, noted that steps had been taken to place Mr. Ofori-Atta on an Interpol Red Notice with extradition proceedings underway to return him to Ghana.
What is the issue?
Mr. Ofori-Atta, who served as Finance Minister under erstwhile President Nana Akufo-Addo’s government,
is being investigated for his alleged involvement in several high-profile cases, including:
1. Petroleum and Minerals Revenue Assurance: Contractual arrangements between Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
2. Electricity Company Contract Termination: The termination of a contract between the Electricity Company of Ghana and Beijing Xiao Cheng Technology (BXC).
3. National Cathedral Project: Procurement procedures and financial transactions related to the construction of the National Cathedral.
4. Ambulance Procurement: A Ministry of Health contract with Service Ghana Auto Group Limited for the purchase and maintenance of 307 ambulances.
5. GRA Tax P-Fund Management: The handling and disbursement of funds from the GRA’s Tax P-Fund Account.
