A seven-year-old Grade 1 pupil has died after she was allegedly beaten by three fellow school children while walking to school.
The alleged killing happened in Mwandi District within the Western Province of Zambia, on Friday, November 28, 2025, at about 09:00 hours. It happened specifically in the Mwazamba area.
The incident was later reported to police at about 18:30 hours and the deceased little girl has been identified as Mwaka Sifukama.
Zambian Police spokesman Godfrey Chilabi, says preliminary investigations show that Mwaka was walking to school in the company of three other pupils — a 10-year-old girl, a nine-year-old boy, and an eight-year-old girl — when a quarrel broke out.
The three allegedly assaulted her using sticks and their hands, causing injuries that proved fatal. She was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Her body has been placed in the Mwandi Mission Hospital Mortuary pending a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
The three children believed to be involved have since been placed under the Department of Social Welfare, which is applying child protection measures and providing support as investigations continue.
