At least three persons have reportedly been beheaded in communal clash over land in the Edda Local Government Area of Nigeria’s Ebonyi State.
According to the Ebonyi State Police Command, another person died from injuries sustained during the clash.
Spokesperson of the Ebonyi State Police, Joshua Ukandu, was reported by local media outlet, TheCable to have confirmed the deaths.
According to him, the violence erupted on January 29, 2026 during an attack on Okporojor village in Oso Edda Community. The violence was allegedly perpetrated by persons from Ndukwe Community in Amasiri, Afikpo Local Government Area.
He disclosed that three of the victims were beheaded during the attack, adding that the fourth person later died in a hospital from injuries sustained during the fight.
Touching on destruction caused during the clash, he said several mud houses were burnt, windows of a church building damaged, and harvested paddy rice destroyed.
According to him, the deadly clash was due to a land dispute between Okporojor village and Ndukwe Community.
The police spokesperson explained that “Upon receipt of the report, the commissioner of police immediately ordered the massive deployment of the command tactical squads and PMF unit to the affected area.”
He stated that “The deployed personnel have since taken control of the situation and restored calm and normalcy.”
