Three Nigerian citizens have been jailed for 10 years in Ghana for stealing cars within the Kumasi metropolis.
The jailed Nigerians are Francis Friday, Linus Agwazie, and Russel Ekenze.
Personnel of the Ashanti Regional Police Command arrested the Nigerians on June 20, 2025, during operations targeting criminal activities involving parked vehicles.
The convicts were appeared before the Atasemano Circuit Court on July 22, 2025. In court, Russell Ekenze pleaded guilty and was jailed for 10 years with hard labour.
Convicts Friday and Agwazie pleaded not guilty, leading to a separate trial.
But on July 23, 2025, the Kumasi Circuit Court 3 found Friday and Agwazie guilty on two counts each and handed them eight-year concurrent sentences. The Circuit Court 1 on the same day slapped an additional 20-year concurrent sentence on all three Nigerians for related offences.
Again, in another ruling on July 24, 2025, Circuit Court 2 convicted Ekenze once more, adding another 10 years sentence with hard labour, which is to run concurrently with his initial sentence.
They are currently serving their sentences at the Kumasi Central Prison.
Three Nigerian nationals jailed 10 years for vehicle theft in Kumasi
Three Nigerian nationals have been convicted and sentenced to lengthy prison terms for their involvement in a series of vehicle theft offences within the Kumasi Metropolis.
The convicts — Francis Friday, Linus Agwazie, and Russell Ekenze — were arrested by the Ashanti Regional Police Command on June 20, 2025 during operations targeting criminal activities involving parked vehicles.
On 22nd July 2025, the three appeared before the Atasemanso Circuit Court, where Russell Ekenze pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour (IHL).
His accomplices, Friday and Agwazie, pleaded not guilty, leading to a separate trial.
A day later, 23rd July 2025, Circuit Court 3 found Friday and Agwazie guilty on two counts each and handed them 8-year concurrent sentences. On the same day, Circuit Court 1 also imposed an additional 20-year concurrent sentence on all three convicts for related charges.
In a further ruling on July 24, 2025, Circuit Court 2 convicted Ekenze again, adding another 10 years IHL, also to run concurrently with his earlier sentence.
The three men are now serving their sentences at the Kumasi Central Prison.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command described the convictions as a significant step in the fight against organized and transnational crime, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
The Command also urged the public to continue supporting law enforcement efforts by reporting suspicious activities.
