Some two Sudanese footballers playing their club football with Ghana Premier League giant, Asante Kotoko, have reportedly ran away from their team’s hotel in the US where they are expected to play DC United. The players named AbdoelKarem Yagoub and Esmat Abdulhamid, were reportedly captured on CCTV camera leaving the hotel.
Kotoko are expected to play DC United, a Major League Soccer team, on Saturday, October 12, 2024. The Capital City Cup match, was scheduled after Kotoko defeated Accra Hearts of Oak in the maiden Democracy Cup in Accra.
The ceremonial match is organized by the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) in collaboration with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) as part of the Ghana Week DC 2024 celebration.
At least seven Kotoko players namely AbdoelKarem Yagoub, Esmat Abdulhamid, Samba O’Neil, Emmanuel Antwi, Elvis Kyei Baffour, Camara Mohammed and Justice Blay, traveled to America with Asante Kotoko Coach, Dr. Prosper Ogum Narteh. The rest of the squad were expected to receive their visas to join the team in the US.
However, the club was unsuccessful in securing visas for the rest of the players, issuing a statement on Thursday in which it announced its withdrawal from the competition.
