A 15-year-old boy has been arrested following a terrifying sexual assault in Belle Isle, Leeds, on Monday morning. Police say the victim was approached by a group of four men wearing black balaclavas who allegedly threatened her with a knife before the assault.
West Yorkshire Police confirmed the arrest, stating the teen is held on suspicion of attempted rape and is currently in police custody.
The incident took place just before 11:00am, as the victim was walking between Old Run View and West Grange Road. Police reports indicate:
Four masked males were involved.
The suspects were riding two electric bikes.
A knife was held to the victim’s neck before the assault occurred.
The group fled the scene shortly afterward.
Detective Chief Inspector Samantha Freeman of Leeds District’s Safeguarding Unit described the incident as “particularly horrific” and part of a worrying pattern of targeted attacks in the area.
Authorities are asking the public for help to identify the individuals involved:
“We are appealing for information about these incidents and the four males we believe were involved.
We want to know about anyone riding e-bikes while wearing masks or balaclavas in Belle Isle,” said DCI Freeman.
Police are requesting CCTV footage, witness accounts, or any other relevant information. Anyone with information is asked to quote crime reference number 13250703697 when contacting West Yorkshire Police.
Detectives have emphasised the seriousness of the attack and the need for local residents to remain vigilant. They also stressed that the same group is believed to have been involved in other incidents in the area, though details have not been fully disclosed.
West Yorkshire Police continue to urge anyone with information to come forward to assist the ongoing investigation.
