13 Confirmed Dead After Massive Landslide Sweeps Through Kenya’s Rift Valley

At least 13 people have been confirmed dead after a landslide struck parts of Kenya’s Rift Valley early Saturday, following heavy overnight rainfall, authorities said.

According to Elgeyo-Marakwet County Police Commander Peter Mulinge, rescue teams have so far pulled 19 survivors from the rubble, but several people remain missing as the search continues.

Kenya’s Interior Minister, Kipchumba Murkomen, said in a statement that military and police helicopters have been deployed to speed up rescue and evacuation efforts in the remote, affected areas.
