11 Injured in Head-On Collision on Cape Coast-Takoradi Highway

A serious vehicular accident at Eduadjei on the Cape Coast-Takoradi Highway has left 11 people injured and requiring urgent medical attention. The incident, which occurred on the evening of February 2026, involved a head-on collision between a private car and a commercial mini bus.

The Incident at Eduadjei

According to the Central Regional Fire Service, the crash took place at approximately 7:30 p.m. The collision involved two vehicles:

  • Opel Astra (WR 4860-13): Traveling from Cape Coast toward Komenda.
  • Nissan Mini Bus (CR 1414-23): Heading from Takoradi toward Cape Coast.

The impact of the head-on collision resulted in significant damage to both vehicles and temporarily obstructed the flow of traffic on the busy highway.

Rescue and Extrication Efforts

The rescue operation involved both spontaneous help from bystanders and professional intervention by emergency services:

  • Passerby Intervention: Ten passengers from the Nissan mini bus—comprising eight males and two females—were rescued by passersby who stopped to assist immediately after the crash.
  • Fire Service Rescue: Fire personnel arrived at the scene to find the driver of the Opel Astra trapped within the wreckage. Using specialized equipment, the team carefully extricated the driver.
  • Medical Transport: All 11 victims were conveyed to the Elmina Polyclinic. The National Ambulance Service transported the Opel Astra driver, while the others were moved shortly after their initial rescue.

Site Recovery and Investigation

Following the rescue of the victims, fire teams remained on-site to clear debris and fluid spills from the roadway to prevent secondary accidents and restore the normal flow of traffic.

As of the time of this report, the official cause of the accident has not been determined. Authorities from the Central Regional Fire Service and the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) have initiated an investigation to establish the circumstances leading to the collision.
