My Name Reflects My Personality,” OliveTheBoy Says as He Shares Inspiration Behind His Stage Name and Love for Green

Speaking on Asaase Radio’s Rush Hour on November 6, 2024, the crooner discussed how his brand naturally aligns with his personality, revealing insights into his musical identity.

During the interview, OliveTheBoy shared that his stage name came about organically and wasn’t crafted with a specific backstory.

“I thought to myself, if I come into an interview, they’d ask me, ‘This OliveTheBoy name, how did you get it? What was the inspiration?’ And I wanted to cook up something… I didn’t get anything,” he admitted.

The ‘Goodsin’ singer went on to explain that his fondness for green is a personal preference, not part of a planned image. “I’m Olive. Olive is green,” he said, adding, “It was not intentional, though. I mean, my favorite color is green. I like green.”

The symbolism of the olive, which represents peace and connection, aligns with OliveTheBoy’s calm demeanor, though he hinted at a more intense side to his personality.

“Olive, which means to more like have a good relationship it all fits. You have to squeeze an olive to actually get the oil and everything,” he said, explaining how the name encapsulates his complexity. “I’m not somebody who doesn’t get angry. I really get angry sometimes, but you have to, you know, even though I’m calm,” he added.

Reflecting on his early experiences in music, OliveTheBoy recalled his beginnings with freestyle performances in school, saying, “It was not like the present-day music. You know, but not to throw shades, I was way better than most of the boys in school.”

As he continues to establish himself in Ghana’s music scene, OliveTheBoy is committed to maintaining his current stage name, affirming, “I don’t think so,” when asked about a potential change. Known for hits such as Good Sin, Asylum, and Favourite Story, the artist recently released A Fuul, a single featuring Nigerian artist Mayorkun, and is now working on an eight-track EP expected to expand his musical reach.
