US President, Joe Biden, has shockingly announced that he will not be seeking a re-election.
He made the announcement in a letter posted on his official account on X.
According to him, he will address Americans in more detail later this week.
There has been concerns about the 81-year-old Biden’s stamina and mental capabilities as well as skepticism about his ability to effectively contest against former President Trump for the November 4 election.
Biden said in his statement that: “It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President,” adding “And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”
