Guinness World Record holder and celebrity chef Hilda Baci has thrown her significant support behind the #JusticeForOchanya movement, publicly pledging ₦2 million to support organizations working with rape and sexual abuse survivors.
In a heartfelt post shared on Instagram, Baci expressed how deeply moved she was by the tragic story of 13-year-old Elizabeth Ochanya Ogbanje, who died in 2018 following alleged abuse by her guardians.
“A 13-year-old girl who should have been safe, loved, and protected was failed by the very people meant to guard her,” she wrote. “As I read through her story, I couldn’t stop thinking about how many girls carry wounds like hers—some have found their voice, some are still silent, and some didn’t get the chance to make it through.”
Turning Advocacy into Action
Baci stressed that honoring Ochanya’s memory requires moving beyond social media hashtags to create safer spaces, fund healing, and ensure accountability for perpetrators.
She announced that her ₦2 million donation would be split between two trusted NGOs supporting survivors of rape and sexual abuse and urged her followers to nominate suitable organizations for her review.
Baci also revealed she had made a separate donation to the GoFundMe campaign supporting Ochanya’s legal case, encouraging her audience to contribute in any way they can.
“If you’re able, you can match or surpass my donation. And if you can’t give financially, that’s okay—lend your voice,” she said. “If you’re a lawyer, offer legal advice… If you’re part of a community or brand, support survivors.”
Her action has been widely praised across social media, with many Nigerians commending her compassion and leadership in turning advocacy into tangible action.
