The Office of the Special Prosecutor, an anti-corruption agency in Ghana, has charged six individuals for alleged payroll fraud and corruption.
The six individuals were charged at the High Court in Tamale, the capital of the Northern Region of Ghana, for their alleged involvement in payroll fraud and corruption.
The accused, including Yakubu Tahidu, Abdulai Abukari Sadic, Sammy Suuk, Mohammed Yusif Jay, Stafford Korletey Azudey-Barres, and Osman Issahaku, face 17 counts of corruption, which reportedly caused significant financial loss to the state.
The case began with a referral from National Security, which claimed that Yakubu Tahidu, a former teacher at Balogu M/A JHS, continued to receive salaries despite being employed at another government agency, the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) ². The remaining accused allegedly facilitated or failed to prevent the fraudulent payments.
The charges against each individual are as follows:
– *Yakubu Tahidu*: Accused of illegally receiving salaries after vacating his post to join MASLOC.
– *Abdulai Abukari Sadic and Sammy Suuk*: Accused of facilitating salary validations for Yakubu Tahidu.
– *Mohammed Yusif Jay*: Accused of validating salaries despite being reassigned to another school.
– *Stafford Korletey Azudey-Barres*: Accused of aiding the processing of fraudulent payments.
– *Osman Issahaku*: Accused of continuing to validate irregular payments.
The OSP continues to investigate and prosecute cases to safeguard public funds and uphold accountability.
