The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC) and the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) have voiced their deep concern over being left out of the National Education Forum.

The National Education Forum is scheduled to take place on February 18-19, 2025.

In a press statement released on February 17, the two prominent religious organizations described their exclusion as a significant setback to inclusive dialogue on the future of education in Ghana.

As key stakeholders in the educational sector, the GCBC and CCG emphasized their long-standing commitment to the development and welfare of the educational system. They have consistently worked to ensure that their educational institutions serve the needs of every Ghanaian child, regardless of their background or beliefs.

Historically, the GCBC and CCG have played a vital role in Ghana’s education sector, overseeing numerous schools and advocating for policies that align with national values, traditions, and aspirations. They argue that their exclusion from the forum undermines efforts to create an equitable and holistic education system.

The GCBC and CCG believe that their absence from the forum is a disservice to the broader educational community and the ideals of inclusivity and shared responsibility in national development. They have called on the government, particularly the Ministry of Education, to reconsider their exclusion and extend an invitation to ensure a truly inclusive forum.

As the National Education Forum convenes today, the GCBC and CCG’s exclusion raises concerns about the representation of key stakeholders in Ghana’s educational sector. The outcome of this forum will likely have significant implications for the future of education in Ghana.
