Former PPA Board Chairman ‘Admits’ To $2 Million Payment For No Work Done On Accra Sky Train Project

Ghana’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has confirmed that former Public Procurement Authority (PPA) Board Chairman, Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, has admitted to paying $2 million for no work done on the Accra Sky Train Project.

Dr. Ayine revealed that Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi was arrested and questioned, and he confessed to the payment. “Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi was arrested and questioned, and he did admit that the $2 million was paid for no work done,” Dr. Ayine stated.

When asked about his involvement in the arrest, Dr. Ayine replied, “Yes, I did.” He emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, saying, “We’re still investigating the circumstances of the payment and those who were involved”.

Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi was taken into custody by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) on February 23, 2025, at Kawukudi, near Nima in the Greater Accra Region. His lawyer, Ken Kuranchie, reported that Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi voluntarily accompanied the NIB officials to their head office and later to their Kawukudi offices in Accra.
