The Female Vice Chancellors of Public Universities in Ghana have paid a courtesy call on Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the newly elected Vice President of the Republic of Ghana to congratulate her on her election as the first female president of the country as well as to discuss other education related issues in Ghana.

During their visit, the Vice Chancellors praised Professor Opoku-Agyemang for her exceptional contributions to academia and her unwavering commitment to education, particularly her advocacy for women’s empowerment. They highlighted her pioneering role in shaping the future of education in Ghana.

The discussions between the Vice Chancellors and the Vice President-elect focused on strategies to enhance the quality of higher education in Ghana. Key issues addressed included funding initiatives, creating job opportunities for graduates, and strengthening the research capacity of university faculty.

As a sign of respect, the female Vice Chancellors presented Professor Opoku-Agyemang with the Adinkra symbol “Nea Ope Se Obedi Hene,” a symbol representing service and leadership in Ghanaian culture.

In her response, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang who was also the first woman to lead a public university in Ghana as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) from 2008 to 2012, expressed profound gratitude for the visit. She reassured the delegation of her continued commitment to improving higher education opportunities, ensuring they are fit-for-purpose and accessible for all Ghanaians.
