Moving On”, Africa’s first AI-generated climate music video by award-winning Nigerian Afropop/AfroRnB artist AkayCentric and Emmy-winning filmmaker Lisa Russell, premieres at COP29 both virtually and in-person. With a social media segment to be released by UN Video and featuring an exclusive in-person screening, the video gives a voice to African youth climate activists who – against all odds – keep moving on.
T ouching on topics of climate and gender, intergenerational arts and advocacy, indigenous knowledge and meaningful representation of youth and artists, “Moving On” follows a young Nigerian woman’s inspiring journey from a climate activist down on her luck to an empowered climate “artivist” after a transformative dream encounter with an Indigenous African Griot.
““Moving On” is a reminder of the strength within us to rise, stay true to ourselves, and keep moving forward, no matter the setbacks,” states AkayCentric.
“It celebrates resilience, courage, and the unyielding pursuit of our dreams.”
As independent artists, AkayCentric and Russell leveraged creative AI to bring their vision to life, bypassing traditional industry gatekeepers.
“We are two independent artists using AI to break past gatekeepers in music and film,” says Russell, an Asian American filmmaker and an AI artist.
“With ‘Moving On,’ we hope to inspire artists and activists—especially those from BIPOC communities and the global south/majority — to see their potential as impact creators in the climate and sustainability spaces.”
The global online premiere will take place on YouTube on November 16th at 10am EST . Alongside the video premiere, Arts Envoy will launch its Sustainability Store to support artist livelihoods and encourage responsible consumerism, with proceeds benefiting both artists and climate-focused initiatives.
