Adele, the award-winning singer, has been accused of sabotaging the sale of a £6 million mansion she once rented by claiming it was haunted. The owners of Lock House, a Grade II-listed property in Partridge Green, West Sussex, have submitted a planning application to convert the 10-bedroom house into three residential units, citing Adele’s comments as a major obstacle in selling the property.

According to the application, Adele rented the property in 2012 and stayed for six months. During an interview with Anderson Cooper on CBS, Adele described the house as “scary” and said it gave her “the creeps.” Although she did not use the word “haunted,” the owners claim that her comments have had a lasting impact on the property’s reputation and have deterred potential buyers.

The owners have been trying to sell the property for over 14 years, but the only offer they received was withdrawn after the prospective buyer learned about the property’s supposed haunted status. The property is currently listed for £5,995,000 and features 10 bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, a tennis court, a helicopter pad, and a cinema room.

Adele’s representatives have not commented on the allegations. The planning application is currently under review, and it remains to be seen whether the owners will be granted permission to convert the property into residential units.

Lock House has a rich history, dating back to 1909. It was originally constructed as a single dwelling but has undergone several transformations over the years, including a major reconstruction program in 1940. The property was also once used as a convent and was divided into 26 separate lots before being purchased by the current owner in 2003.
