Why Kelvyn Boy Remains an Independent Artist Since Leaving Stonebwoy’s Label

Ghanaian Afrobeats sensation, Kelvyn Brown, better known by the stage name Kelvyn Boy has shed light on why he has remained an independent artist since parting ways with Burniton Music Group in 2019.

In a candid conversation on Y107.9FM’s Dryve Of Your Lyfe with host Kojo Manuel, the talented singer shared that he’s cautious when it comes to record label offers, a key factor in his decision to remain unattached to any label after leaving Stonebwoy’s camp.

“I’ve been independent since 2019. I’ve not been signed to any label after Stonebwoy’s,” Kelvyn Boy stated, referencing his departure from the Burniton Music Group, which is owned by award-winning dancehall artist Stonebwoy.

The ‘Down Flat’ hitmaker further explained that while he has received several offers from various record labels, none have met his expectations. Instead of jumping at the first opportunity, the singer takes a more strategic approach to the music business. “There have been a few offers; but if the offer does not sit too well with me, there’s always another way to work and make money,” he revealed.

He went on to detail the potential drawbacks of signing with some record labels, noting that they can sometimes limit an artist’s growth instead of promoting them.

“Some of the record label contracts will end up boxing you in, and instead of promoting you, they will hold you back,” he cautioned, adding that remaining independent gives him more control over his music and financial gains.

“It’s far better to be independent and make your money until a better deal comes,” the singer stressed.

Kelvyn Boy’s decision to stay independent reflects a growing trend among artists who seek more autonomy over their careers. For now, the singer continues to enjoy success on his own terms while remaining open to potential partnerships that align with his vision.
