The Office of the Resident City Commissioner (RCC) Soroti City, led by Peter Pex Paak, launched the disbursement of Parish Development Model (PDM) funds to beneficiaries in Agama Ward, West Division, Soroti City.
In his speech, RCC Paak highlighted Uganda’s journey since independence, emphasizing President Museveni’s efforts to address three major challenges: illiteracy, diseases, and poverty.
He noted that the government introduced Universal Primary Education (UPE) and Universal Secondary Education (USE) in 1997, resulting in many graduates. Every sub-county now has both UPE and USE schools.
On diseases, Paak mentioned that every sub-county has health centers. To combat poverty, the government introduced various programs, including Etandikwa, NAADS, Emyooga, NUSAF, SAGE, Elders’ funds, PWDs funds, Women’s funds, Youths’ livelihood funds, and PDM.
Paak warned beneficiaries against being misled by politicians using propaganda for political gain. He highlighted Soroti City’s progress, with PDM already commissioned in four wards: Otatai, Kengere, Moruapesur, Campwahili, and now Agama.
He also mentioned near-completion projects, including the Regional Blood Bank, Otatai Health Centre III, street lights in the city, and water supply from NWSC to rural areas.
Paak urged parents to monitor their children’s activities, particularly regarding the “Owokwok” issue, and encouraged leaders to expose individuals without toilets and parents who fail to send their children to school.
The launch marks a significant step towards empowering communities and promoting development in Soroti City.
