Ten exceptional agriculture technology (AgricTech) innovators have been awarded a total of $74,000 in grants, with each recipient receiving $7,400. The funding is part of the Innovate for Clean Agricultural Technologies (INFoCAT) innovative challenge, sponsored by IDRC under the Clean Energy for Development, in partnership with Enda Energie and UNU-INRA.

The INFoCAT challenge aims to support low-cost clean energy-powered agritech innovators, with a focus on expanding access to reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy technologies for smallholder women and youth farmers in Ghana, Senegal, and Cote D’Ivoire.

The 10 beneficiaries were selected from over 100 AgriTech entrepreneurs who pitched their concepts during the INFoCAT competition. The winning innovators include:

1. iSOLAR Ghana – smart solar-powered irrigation system

2. Harvest Ease Innovators – agricultural mechanization

3. Amuga Welding and Machine shop – metal fabrication

4. WOBIL Technologies Ltd

5. Hormeku-Massis Enterprise

6. Das Biogas

7. Sunify Solar Dry Technology

8. SAYeTECH – Ghanaian agricultural technology company

INFoCAT Project Coordinator, Dr. Ferdinand Tornyie, emphasized that the challenge is part of a larger project aimed at supporting small businesses in the green transition. “These exceptional innovators will receive seed funding to design and develop their technologies, with a focus on greening and generating green energy,” he said.

The best technology among the 10 selected will receive an additional $34,000 for upscaling and expansion. The AgriTech teams have been paired with experts to help fine-tune their technologies and ensure practical application.

Professor Christopher Gordon, Former Director of the Institute of Environment and Sanitation Studies at the University of Ghana, encouraged the participants to create synergies and collaborate to compete effectively with international competitors.
